Statement on the President’s Housing Executive Order
“Americans know the housing market is broken. Our polling shows 60 percent of them are unhappy with housing affordability. The median first-time buyer is now 40 years old. Thursday’s executive order goes after the costs that keep working families from owning a home.
Washington has spent too long reaching for policies that raise borrowing costs. This order does the opposite and lowers them. Congress should follow through by codifying the President’s ban on institutional investors buying up single-family homes, supporting methods to save money for borrowers, and by clearing the zoning and permitting barriers that hold back new construction. Let’s Make Homes Affordable Again.”
