Bull Moose Project Letter Urges FirstNet Reauthorization
9/11 exposed critical weaknesses in America’s ability to respond to a crisis. But through years of bipartisan effort, Congress was able to fix it with the creation of FirstNet, a revolutionary system which allows first responders to seamlessly connect with one another in the event of a crisis at no cost to the taxpayer, thanks to buy-in from AT&T.
But FirstNet — created in 2012 — expires in 2027. Without quick congressional action this critical program will simply disappear.
Tuesday, the House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Communications and Technology of the Committee on Energy and Commerce is holding a hearing on "The First Responder Network Authority Reauthorization Act," which if passed would save FirstNet. In a letter to Subcommittee Chairman Hudson, we urge the House and Senate to quickly pass this legislation and get it to President Trump’s desk.
